"Found" is a collection of FineArt photographs comprised of 'Things Found'.
As much as I am reluctant to connect its impetus with the COVID pandemic, I must admit that the "lockdown" has finally - after more than a year, had an affect upon me.
The series began with “Seed Pod”. While spending the night at a hotel, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, I went out to walk the dog for the final constitutional of the day. The night was cold, and the only light to illuminate the alley was from a single street light.
As I passed by a cactus, growing at the edge of the abandoned asphalt parking lot, I noticed the pods at the top of the dried flower stems. My initial reason, for grabbing a few, was in the hopes that they would contain viable seeds that I could plant in my garden. But once I saw the pods, in the lighted hotel room, I was compelled to photograph them as soon as I returned home.
There is always a subtle, often overlooked magic to the things produced by nature. And it is within the subtleties that we can be amazed again. They have the ability to awaken us from our slumbers created by the repetition of everyday life. And in these awakenings we find renewed hope, stimulation of dormant connections, and - most beneficial of all, the “Magic” that waits, always patiently, for us to rediscover it - and reconnect to it.
This body of work is an attempt to remind the viewer of this Magic that awaits their rediscovery.
